The association was founded in 1977 with the aim of collecting the war material, including many weapons, still held by private citizens. The outcome constituted the embryo of the future collection, then enriched over the years, thanks to subsequent donations and acquisitions by the Italian Army. Today the War Museum Association - Gotica Line owns the finds and manages the museum space, which together with the other collections (Animal Tower and Museo del Castagno) constitute the Alidosian Museum System. Active members are around 40.
From 2011 the president is the lawyer. dr. Stefano Giovannini, the Deputy is Dr. Valerio Calderoni
The Alidosian Museum System is directed by Dr. Stefano Sabioni.
Since its foundation, the Association has met and welcomed numerous supporters who contribute to the growth of the Museum, which is one of the most extensive documentation of the Gothic Line. Significant relations are active with the Superintendence of the Fine Arts of Emilia Romagna, the Emilia Romagna Region, the Metropolitan City of Bologna and the tourist company IF. The Italian, British and American Arms Associations flank the activities of the Association.
PARTNER & SPONSOR
Today the museum develops historical research, through the creation of volumes and thematic publications and the growth of collections. A significant relationship with the Cassa di Risparmio di Imola Foundation and many entrepreneurial activities in the Santerno and Imola Valleys allows volunteers to support the museum's maintenance activities.
The Museum welcomes donations of war finds or original documents. Once taken care of, objects or documents are photographed and cataloged as well as being put on display. Anyone in possession of testimonies can submit them to the association for an evaluation and possible acquisition.
